Iron Heritage Festival

Danville, Pennsylvania 17822Home to the first T-rail in America, Danville’s rich history in the iron industry is celebrated each year as the community gathers for the Iron Heritage Festival in late July. Beginning in 1829, Danville’s first iron foundry was established to manufacturer wagon boxes, plowshares, andirons, sadiron and griddles. In 1839-1840 Iron Ore started to be mined locally and in 1840 the first anthracite furnace to efficiently produce iron was opened in Danville. On Oct 8, 1845, the first T-rail in America was rolled out at the Montour Iron Works, the largest iron manufacturing plant in the United States. The T-rail made it possible for Pennsylvania and America to become the leader in the industrial revolution. With excellent running routes and breathtaking bike rides, Danville and surrounding communities have become home to some of the region’s most challenging and competitive races. Danville’s historic Market Street has been selected as the starting point for the River Towns Marathon and Half Marathon. Danville is also the starting point of the epic Montour 75-mile bike race.
